A
New Way Forward
The Millennium celebrations are now almost over and the reality
of what we have embarked upon is now clear. The pace of business
life continues to get faster, delivery lead times are now much
shorter and the need to instantly communicate business-to-business

Mobile phones, e-mails and instant response are becoming the
expected norm. WAP phones, digital technology and touch screen
on-line television access to goods and services are soon to
be with us with the need to adapt to constant change in our

Within North West Chambers we are keeping pace with all of this
change in society and business. During the past year we have
evolved a new organisational structure, creating a not-for-profit
limited company which replaces the former Chamber Association.
This business-focused approach now enables us to concentrate
on the growing regional agenda with active participation.
The collective regional voice of our members will continue to
be expressed with vigour and where it can be heard. We continue
to represent the business voice in a variety of regional organisations
and intiatives, playing our part in European Social Fund Objective
Two/Three funding, the Regional Intelligence Unit of the North
West Development Agency, the North West Regional Assembly, the
North West Constitutional Convention and joint initiatives with
the Confederation of British Industry and the Institute of Directors

Throughout the year we continue to produce a most informative
economic analysis of the region's business activity. With the
generous support of the Royal Bank of Scotland this quarterly
economic report is studied by many economists, reported in the
national media and referred to by Bank of England economic analysts.
The results are also fed into the British Chambers of Commerce
statistics for national usage.
We have seen over the past 12 months a noticeable growth in
our influence on the regional agenda. I am sure this will continue
as North West Chambers Limited plays an increasing role in support
of the North West Regional Assembly, the evolving Constitutional
Convention and the delivery of technology and support to North
West business activity through the new Small Business Service.
Our business focus with the new North West Chamber structure
will be to provide all entrepreneurs in the region an ideal
opportunity to grow their business and improve their bottom
line.
The North West is already an established place to do business.
We will continue to do all we can to see that sustained and
improved. Together with the NWRA we will work in partnership
to achieve our goals for a sustainable future.
